Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali has lauded the remarkable progress achieved so far in the Sof Omar development project in the country’s Bale area, which is being funded through proceeds from the sale of his book “Generation Medemer” in the Oromia region.
In a social media post on [insert date], the Prime Minister stated that he had witnessed the inspiring start to the project during a recent visit to the area. He highlighted the rich history, natural endowments, and attractive landscapes of Bale, which he said give the region high potential for growth.
Last year, when we launched the book “Generation Medemer,” we dedicated the proceeds from sales in the Oromia Region to developing the Sof Omar area. Today, we witnessed the remarkable progress made. Bale, with its rich history and natural endowments, is a high-potential area. Its attractive landscapes, coupled with infrastructure development and improved connectivity, can catalyze further growth. Nearby Dinsho Park adds to the area’s appeal.
“Bale, with its rich history and natural endowments, is a high-potential area,” Ahmed wrote. “Its attractive landscapes, coupled with infrastructure development and improved connectivity, can catalyze further growth.”
The Prime Minister also noted that the nearby Dinsho Park adds to the appeal of the Sof Omar area, which is located in the Bale Zone of the Oromia Region.
According to Ahmed, the development project has already made significant strides in improving infrastructure, boosting connectivity, and generating employment opportunities for local communities. He emphasized that this progress underscores the importance of robust project management.
“The inspiring start of the Sof Omar project underscores the importance of strong project management,” the Prime Minister stated. “This progress is already boosting employment and will accelerate living standards in the community.”
The Sof Omar initiative was launched last year when Ahmed’s book, “Generation Medemer,” was published. All proceeds from the book’s sales in the Oromia Region were earmarked for developing the area.
Development experts have long pointed to the potential of Ethiopia’s regions like Bale, which boast natural resources, cultural heritage sites, and picturesque landscapes that could drive sustainable tourism and economic growth if properly harnessed.
Ahmed’s administration has made economic development and job creation top priorities, particularly in rural areas, as part of efforts to uplift the nation and reduce poverty levels.
The Prime Minister’s endorsement of the Sof Omar project’s early achievements is expected to provide further impetus to the initiative and could spur similar development drives across other regions in the East African nation.
