The overall sales of new cars in the country reached 64,025 units by the end of May 2023, a 4.45% year-on-year drop.
According to the latest monthly statistics released by the Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AIVAM), Morocco’s passenger car market experienced a slight decline, with new registrations falling by 2.73%.
A total of 58,365 passenger cars were sold by the end of May this year, reflecting steady demand for personal vehicles in the market.
However, the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment faced a more significant downturn, with new registrations dropping by 19.2%. AIVAM reported that 5,660 LCVs were sold during the same period, reflecting a shift in consumer preferences.
AIVAM data cited in news reports further show that Dacia emerged as a major player in Morocco with a 23% market share. The European brand sold 13,448 units in the first five months of 2023.
Following closely behind is Renault, with 9,122 units sold, accounting for a market share of 15%. Hyundai secured the third position with 7,391 units sold, representing a market share of 12.66%.
In terms of specific LCV models, Renault topped the charts with 1,220 units sold, capturing a market share of 21%. DFSK claimed the second position with 928 vehicles sold, constituting a market share of 16%, while FIAT secured the third spot with 656 units sold, representing an 11% market share.
Regarding the premium car market, Audi emerged as the leader with 1,670 units sold, giving the brand a market share of almost 3%. BMW followed closely behind with 1,330 units sold, accounting for a 2% market share.
Mercedes occupied the third position with 1,168 units sold, representing a market share of 2%. Porsche recorded sales of 193 units, with a market share of 0.3%, while Jaguar recorded sales of 50 cars, accounting for a 0.09% market share.
