Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali conducted a brief visit to the Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure Development today, underscoring his administration’s commitment to creating conducive working environments across government offices.
According to a statement from the PM’s office, the visit had two key objectives – to observe ergonomic initiatives implemented within the ministry’s premises and to gain insights into the urban progress it oversees nationwide.
“Improving office ergonomics and creating conducive environments in government offices have been ongoing priorities,” Abiy stated.
“This visit allowed me to see first-hand the measures taken to enhance workplace conditions for ministry staff.”
The PM was given a tour of the ministry’s facilities and briefed on steps taken to optimize the office layout, furniture, lighting and other factors impacting employee comfort and productivity.
Beyond ergonomics, Abiy also sought updates on the ministry’s oversight of major urban development projects across Ethiopian cities. As the nation’s urban landscape evolves rapidly, ensuring sustainable and well-planned growth is a key focus area.
“Our cities are the engines of our economic progress,” the PM remarked. “It’s important we monitor their development closely while prioritizing quality infrastructure and livability for residents.”
Ministry officials apprised Abiy of current and upcoming initiatives including affordable housing projects, upgrades to roads and public transport networks, and urban regeneration efforts.
The visit signifies the Prime Minister’s hands-on approach to governance and keen interest in both enhancing the civil service work environment and accelerating urban development nationwide.
Abiy’s government has made improving workspace ergonomics a priority across federal offices and ministries over recent years. Optimizing these conditions is seen as crucial to boosting productivity and employee satisfaction within the public sector workforce.
