Tanzania’s diamond exports rose sharply in the lazt 12 months to January 2023 compared with the prior-year period.
According to a statement from the country’s Central Bank released on Wednesday March 2, 2023, the rise is mainly due to increased production.
Tanzania exported diamonds worth $62.5 million in the year ended January 2023, from $8.7 million in the same prior-year period, the bank said in its February monthly review.
The quantities and prices weren’t disclosed.
Tanzania’s large-scale diamond production resumed in the fourth quarter of 2021 after a temporary closure of the country’s only large-scale diamond mine, the Williamson Diamond Mine, the bank said.
