The Black Stars of Ghana will face the Eagles of Mali alongside Madagascar, Comoros, Central African Republic and Chad in Group I for the qualification contest of the 2026 World Cup.
In a draw held in the Ivorian capital Abidjan, the 4 times world Cup participants will battle out for fifth, while the other five contenders will be hoping for their first ticket for the Mondial.
Ghana was placed in Pot B alongside, Burkina Faso, South Africa, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Guinea, Zambia, Gabon, and Equatorial Guinea.
The qualifiers are scheduled to take place over two years, from November 2023 to November 2025 with the nine group winners automatically qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
the second place team however will join three other best group runners up in a mini-tournament for Africa’s final slow.
It follows a move by FIFA to expanded World Cup to cover more countries, with Africa being represented by either nine or ten teams.
