Over the years, the FIFA world cup has seen so many veterans who are well advanced in age featuring in the tournament.

Former Egyptian goalkeeper Essam El Hadary is officially the oldest player to participate in the world cup.

Hadary was 45 years and 161 days old when he played for Egypt in their last group game against Saudi Arabia during the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The 2022 World Cup in Qatar has its own set of veterans and we take a look at five oldest players among the 832 footballers in Qatar. These five players are older than your biggest suspects: Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal who is 37 years, and even Brazil’s Thiago Silva who is 38.

-Alfredo Talavera Diaz (Mexico)

The Club Juarez shot stopper will be 40 years and 63 days old when the competition officially starts on November 20.

He was capped 40 times by Mexico at senior level and was in their squad for both the 2014 and 2018 World Cups though he did not get any minutes to feature.
