With the 13th African Games set to take place in Accra, Ghana this March, organizers have announced the venues that will host the various sporting events.
The main hub of activity will be the Borteyman Sports Complex, which will host badminton, handball, weightlifting, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, fencing, tennis, karate, judo, taekwondo, MMA, wrestling and more. The complex’s new Aquatic Center will be the site for swimming and triathlon competitions.
The University of Ghana in Legon will serve as the Games Village and handle accreditation, transport and administrative matters. It will also host events like arm wrestling, track and field, squash and rugby. The university’s stadium will be used for football, athletics and triathlon.
Male football will take place at Accra Sports Stadium, while female football will be held at Cape Coast Stadium. Laboma Beach will host beach soccer and beach volleyball.
Other venues include Bukom Boxing Arena for boxing, Theodocia Okoh Hockey Stadium for hockey, Alisa Hotel for chess, Olebu for cycling, and Achimota Oval for cricket.
With state-of-the-art facilities secured across Accra and surrounding areas, Ghana hopes to deliver a successful multi-sport showcase as it welcomes athletes from over 50 African nations this August for the 13th African Games.
