Ghana’s Black Princesses booked their place in the semifinals of the African Games women’s football tournament with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Tanzania on Tuesday at the Cape Coast Stadium.
It was Tanzania who struck first through Hasnath Ubamba’s 23rd minute goal as they controlled the early proceedings. However, the Black Princesses responded just before halftime through Tracey Twum’s excellent header to level the scores at 1-1.
The second half was dominated by the Ghanaian side as they laid siege to the Tanzanian goal. Their perseverance paid off when Mukarama Abdulai scored the decisive goal to make it 2-1 in Ghana’s favor.
The win sees the Black Princesses secure one of the semifinal spots from their group with a game to spare. They face Uganda in their final group match on Friday, March 15.
The Black Princesses are aiming to go one better than their runners-up finish at the last African Games in 2019.
With the semifinal spot secured, the hos side will be hoping to carry the winning momentum into the knockout rounds as they chase a first-ever African Games gold medal in women’s football.
