Egypt’s Al Ahly SC defeated Wydad Casablanca 2-1 in the first leg of the CAF Champions League final, on Sunday at Cairo International Stadium.
In the 4th minute of the extra time of the first half, Al Ahly’s midfielder Percy Tau scored the first goal, paving the way for his team’s win.
Al Ahly’s Striker Mahmoud Kahraba sealed his team’s win with a second goal in the 59 minutes.
In the 86th minutes, Saifeddine Bouhra scored the first goal for Wydad.
Wydad Casablanca qualified for the final of the competition for the second consecutive year following a 2-2 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on May 20.
The Moroccan club qualified by virtue of the away goals rule.
Meanwhile, Al Ahly qualified for the final after defeating Raja Casablanca in the quarter-finals and Esperance Tunis in the semi-finals, keeping clean sheets in all four of their previous Champions League matches.
A second leg will also be played in Morocco’s Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca to determine the tournament’s winner on June 11.
In 2022, Wydad AC emerged victorious with a 2-0 scoreline against Al Ahly in the final, winning the title under the leadership of Walid Regragui, who now coaches Morocco’s national team.
Al Ahly holds the record for the most Champions League titles won on the continent with 10 titles, while Wydad has three titles under their belt.
