Supervisor of the Grand Egypt Museum (GEM) project and complex Major General Atef Moftah has announced the installation of 50 percent of all major artefacts inside the main exhibition halls of the project.
Moftah’s announcement came during a videoconference on Saturday with Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Issa and other ministry officials to follow up on completion of construction and preparations for the grand opening of the GEM.
The meeting also reviewed preparations for installing small and medium artefacts inside exhibition halls and followed up on completing work at the King Khufu Solar Boat Museum.
In March 2023, the GEM started receiving a limited number of guided tours via online booking where visitors can have access to the Hanging Obelisk and Glass Hall as well as the Atrium.
Inside the Atrium, visitors would enjoy the sight of the colossal statue of King Ramses II, the massive victory column of King Merneptah, as well as statues of a king and queen from the Ptolemaic era.
Visitors would also enjoy gardens, cafes, restaurants and also buy souvenirs at various gift shops.
The GEM has also started hosting selected private events since November 2022.
After its official inauguration, the GEM complex, which overlooks the Giza Plateau, will become the largest museum in the world that focuses on a single civilization.
The most prominent feature at the GEM will be the exhibit of the Treasures of Tutankhamen, which will be showcased for the first time since its discovery in 1922.
