The Suame Divisional and the Ashanti regional police command on Monday rescued the Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, from angry artisans, operating inside Suame Magazine, a popular spare parts shop in Kumasi.
The Suame MP was on a fact-finding mission to the popular Suame Magazine ECOWAS road following last Thursday’s protest by the artisans.
The Suame MP who is serving his seventh term in parliament upon reaching Suame was met by the angry artisans who have previously accused him of not serving their interest in parliament. The angry mob started throwing stones, bottles and sachets of water at his vehicle.
The MP and the MCE for Suame including his bodyguard upon sensing danger were forced to seek shelter in a conference room in an area called Tarkwah for safety.
The Ashanti regional police commander subsequently led armed police personnel to offer protection to the MP.

While the Suame MP was in a meeting with the GUTA executives, Angry artisans started chanting war songs while others were busy parking sachets of water to attack the MP.
After the meeting, the artisans again attacked the MP but police personnel stationed by the regional police commander quickly moved the MP into his vehicle and quickly whisked him away.
Residents of Tarkwa-Maakro commended the artisans for fighting for their rights.
However, responding to the attack Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu told GHone News, that he is not disturbed by the aggression demonstrated towards him by his constituents.
He said he can’t be blamed for the poor state of the road, adding that the road is under the control of the Highways and it is unfortunate for his constituents to direct their anger at him.
He, however, assured the artisans and Suame constituents that efforts are underway to address their concerns.
