Kenyan Police are holding a teenager who killed and dumped her baby in a septic tank in order to get married to her new lover.
The 17-year-old was arrested in her home in Wangu village near Kirima centre hours after the lifeless body of the six-month-old minor was recovered from the tank.
Emotions ran high among members of the public who wanted to lynch the suspect before police moved in and whisked her to Naivasha police station.
According to a village elder Amos Kiarie, the girl when cornered confessed to killing the baby so that she would get married.
“The girl who dropped out of school after she became pregnant last year said that she wanted to get rid of the baby as he was the stumbling block to her marriage,” he said.
Meanwhile, police in Naivasha are investigating an incident where thugs raided and carted away solar panels worth millions of shillings from a water project in Kinamba estate.
The incident paralyzed the project by the Naivasha Water and Sanitation Company (NAIWASCO) as police launched a manhunt for two guards stationed at the site.
During the incident near Little Friends School, an unknown number of thugs carted away 144 solar panels worth over Sh3m and other assorted equipment.
It’s suspected that the missing night guards in cahoots with the suspects loaded the materials into a waiting lorry before ferrying them to an unknown place.
According to Malewa West MCA Francis Kuria, the theft was a major blow to the water supply in the ward that is located a few kilometres from Naivasha town.
He said that it was still unclear what transpired adding that police had launched investigations while seeking the whereabouts of the two guards.
“We had already installed the solar panels and the water company was working on the final phase of the project but all this has now stalled,” he said.
Kuria, while calling on members of the public to volunteer information said that they suspected that the missing guards had a hand in the robbery.
Naivasha OCPD Benjamin Boen confirmed both incidents adding that inquest files had been opened as part of their investigations.
