The Kenyan government’s plans to send police to Haiti is now on hold following the resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry on Tuesday, March 2024.
Korir Sing’oei, principal secretary for foreign affairs, said without a political administration in Haiti there was no anchor on which the deployment could rest, according to BBC.
Mr Sing’oei added that Kenya will wait for the installation of a new constitutional authority before further decisions are made.
Earlier this month, Kenya and Haiti signed an agreement on the deployment of 1,000 police officers to the Multi-National Security Support Mission in Haiti.
Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry, was in Kenya for the signing of the agreement. He was confident that Kenya was going help us restore peace in his home country after the violence in his country had escalated and led to a state of emergency.
