Former Paris-Saint Germain striker Pedro Miguel Pauleta is in the country on a visit which is is part of the French football giants’ partnership deal with Rwanda through the Visit Rwanda campaign.
The Portuguese and his delegation, who arrived in Kigali on Friday night, will immerse themselves in Rwanda’s vibrant culture, explore tourist attractions and attend Saturday’s Basketball Africa League (BAL) final between Senegalese side AS Douanes and Egypt’s Al Ahly at BK Arena.
Pauleta, 50, joins the ever-growing list of PSG past and present players who have been to Rwanda as part of the ‘Visit Rwanda’ partnership deal existing between the two parties.
In 2022 the likes of Sergio Ramos, goalkeeper Keylor Navas, forward Julian Draxler and a host of others from the PSG fraternity visited Rwanda and had a great time in the country.
Pauleta is the first ex-footballer of the club to be in Rwanda in 2023.
It is also the first visit by a PSG delegate since the partnership was extended earlier this month.
Pauleta featured for PSG from 2003 to 2008 and made 168 appearances scoring 78 goals. On the international scene, he was capped 88 times by Portugal in a nine-year span scoring 47 goals.
PSG and Visit Rwanda,the tourism-focused arm of the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), have been partners since 2020 and the deal was renewed to 2025 on May 10, 2023.
