Rwandan President, Paul Kagame, on Thursday, October 13, welcomed Kenya’s Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua at his office in Kigali.
The two leaders held talks on further deepening bilateral relations between the two East African nations.
Gachagua and his delegation had earlier attended the official opening of the Youth Connekt Summit in Kigali.
According to a tweet from the Office of the President, their discussions centered on “furthering the existing strong bilateral ties for the benefit of the people of Rwanda and Kenya.”
Gachagua is the first top Kenyan official to visit Rwanda since Kenya’s presidential elections qlast month. He was accompanied by 12 Members of Parliament.
Kagame attended the inauguration of President William Ruto and his deputy Gachagua last month.
“Kenya and Rwanda have a long established relationship based not just on geography but mutual interests and long standing partnerships on economic and security issues,” Ruto tweeted after meeting with Kagame at the time.
“We will seek to build and expand our cooperation for the mutual benefit of the citizens of our countries,” he added.
In his inaugural speech, President Ruto pledged to support regional integration and peace efforts.
