Africa News 360 has carefully monitored these celebrities’ Instagram accounts and has compiled the ranking as of 14th July 2023. These African celebrities include musicians, actors, actresses and footballers.

Instagram is the world’s fifth most popular social media network, with over a billion monthly users. Most of those users are from India and the United States, with African countries starting to catch up in recent times.

The rise of Instagram users on the continent is coinciding with the increase of African celebrities with profiles on this platform.

So, which African celebrity has the highest followership on Instagram? That’s what this article seeks to answer now, starting from Africa’s most-followed person, Egyptian and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.

Mohamed Salah is the most followed person born in an African country with over 61 million followers. The Egyptian player is the king of Instagram. Salah was instrumental in Liverpool’s success in winning the Champions League last year. He is one of the players who post quality and beautiful pictures on Instagram.

From the music universe – Africa’s second most followed Instagram celebrity is Davido.

The Nigerian star, who recently released his ‘Timeless Album’ and performed on many big platforms including the BETs, and others, currently has over 27.4 million followers on Instagram.

Mo Salah has given Davido a gap of about 33.6 million.

3. Yemi Alade (@yemialade) 17.5M

Another Nigerian singer who’s on the list of Africa’s most-followed celebrities on Instagram is Yemi Alade. At the moment of writing, she currently has more than 17.5 million followers.

4. Tiwa Savage (@tiwasavage) 17.2M

Although she’s been living in London since the age of 11, Tiwa Savage has Nigerian roots. Born in Isale Eko, she started her music career in the UK, providing backup vocals for pop stars like Mary J. Blige and George Michael. The Nigerian singer has over 17.2 million followers on Instagram. She was amongst a few African singers to perform at the King Charles III coronation concert in London this year.

Also known as Simba, Diamond Platnumz is a Tanzanian singer, actor, and producer, who became the first African artist to hit 900 million combined views on YouTube in 2020.

The Bongo singer has overs 16.2 million followers in the fifth most-used social media app.

Nollywood actress Funke Akindele, the fourth most followed celebrity in Nigeria chopped the seventh position in Africa. She has over 15.8 million followers.

Didier Drogba remains one of Africa’s most popular footballers of all time. Although the Ivorian and Chelsea legend has retired from professional football, he currently has more than 14.2 million followers on Instagram.

9. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (@auba) 13.9M

Renowned Nollywood actress Ini Edo is the 10th most followed celebrity in Africa on Instagram. Her impeccable lifestyle may be attractive to so many people but she could not gain more followers as expected of her. Naija people always say ‘Naija No Dey Chop Last’ but not in this article. The actress recently revealed that she welcomed a child through surrogacy. That sparked a lot of conversation on social media.
