Tunisia has re-iterated its support for an inter-Libyan solution to the country’s crisis through a comprehensive dialogue among all groups in Libya and an agreement on an inclusive national basis.
Tunisian Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Mounir Benjiba, whose country holds the current rotating presidency of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union (AU), headed the bloc’s ministerial meeting on the reconciliation in Libya via video teleconference on Tuesday.
The member states stressed the need to respect Libya’s unity, integrity, and sovereignty and praised the “progress made in the political reconciliation track.”
They also praised the Libyan Presidential Council for its efforts to achieve a comprehensive political settlement within the framework of a Libyan-Libyan solution.
Furthermore, the group commended the mediation efforts of neighbouring countries, the high-level committee of the AU on Libya, and the UN Envoy, Abdoulaye Bathily, in supporting dialogue and consensus between all political parties.
