Vice president of Ghana continues to carries himself around as if nothing has happened to the economy of the country – Asante Addai writes

Some of us are very surprised at how the vice president of Ghana continues to carries himself around as if nothing has happened to the economy of the country.

After running down the economy of Ghana to an unimaginable magnitude, Dr. Bawumia still has the guts to continue to appear in public claiming to be innocent of what he has caused the country.

If I were him, my conscience would not allow me to behave the way he has been displaying himself as if nothing untoward has happened in the economy. Having portrayed himself as the only economic wizard who exclusively has the arsenal of knowledge of all the antidotes to the economic problem of Ghana, he has rather completely caused an unprecedented damage to the economy of Ghana, causing extreme hardship to Ghanaians.

He condemned Ghana going to the IMF for a bailout in 2015 when he was in the opposition. What do we see now? We are back to the IMF in extreme economic conditions.

He said it is a lazy man’s approach for the government to be borrowing to manage the economy. What do we see now? Under his watch, Ghana has borrowed an amount more than all governments before him since independence borrowed.

He said the cedi’s depreciation under the previous government was unacceptable and described the leadership at the time as being incompetent. During that time, the dollar was sold at 3.5 cedis. What do we see now under him? The dollar that was bought at 6.5 cedis in January 2022 is now bought at 14.5 cedis. In fact, within 10 months, the dollar rate increased by almost 150%.

Now, the one he described as incompetent is their chief advisor. Mahama advised them to go to the IMF for a bailout at the beginning of our Economic crisis ( i.e. when as a result of our huge debt, we were banned from borrowing on the world capital market). Even though they refused initially, they later ran at a sprinter speed to the IMF as advised by Mahama. What a shame!

Mahama advised them to hold a stakeholder consultation to deal with the fast depreciation of the cedi that had begun to have untold hardships on the masses. Even though they hesitated initially, they had no choice but to heed to it.

With the Biblical illustration, one can conclude that the rejected stone by the builders has now become the cornerstone of the building, isn’t it?

Bawumia should be bold enough as a man to apologize to Ghanaians for deceiving them with his charming bragging that he had all the antidotes to the problems of Ghana only to end up running down completely the economy and hence causing an untold economic crisis on the masses. He should do as the Finance Minister did when he apologized to Ghanaians for subjecting them to the current economic doldrums when he appeared before the parliamentary committee that investigated him.

A word to the wise, is enough.

Think about it.
