In a swift response to circulating rumors, veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has emphatically denied reports of her husband Olu Jacobs’ death.
The legendary Nigerian actor is “alive and doing just fine,” according to Silva.
This marks the second instance of false death rumors surrounding the respected thespian spreading on social media platforms. Silva, responding to an SMS inquiry, stated plainly, “My husband is alive and doing just fine.”
Further corroborating Silva’s statement, a source close to the family, who requested anonymity, revealed that the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) had engaged in an hour-long conversation with Silva earlier in the day.
The source noted, “Somebody who has lost a husband cannot be that chatty and gail on phone,” suggesting the implausibility of the circulating rumors.
Betty Irabor, a family associate, has also stepped forward to refute the false claims.
Perhaps the most definitive evidence came from Channels TV, which broadcast an interview with Olu Jacobs himself. During the interview, the actor not only confirmed his well-being but also mentioned his plans to visit Ikoyi Club later that evening.
The video showed the actor being shaved, likely as part of his daily routine. In the footage, Jacobs could be heard reacting to the death rumors, although his voice was barely audible.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the rapid spread of misinformation on social media and underscores the importance of verifying news from reliable sources before sharing. 1
As the Nigerian film industry and fans worldwide breathe a collective sigh of relief, it’s clear that Olu Jacobs continues to be a beloved figure whose welfare remains a matter of public interest and concern.
