Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has extended his heartfelt condolences and compassion to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the passing of his brother Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
“On this somber occasion, and through you to the rest of your esteemed Emiri family and the brotherly Emirati people, on my own behalf and on behalf of my royal family, I extend my deepest condolences and sincere feelings of sympathy for this painful and undesirable loss,” the Moroccan state media reported.
The death of Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was announced on Thursday. The Presidential Court had previously reported that he had been suffering from a health problem.
In his message, King Mohammed VI emphasized that Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was recognized throughout his illustrious career for his moral and professional qualities, unwavering patriotism, and steadfast commitment to the values and national interests of the UAE.
The Moroccan monarch’s message to his Emirati counterpart comes as the relations between Rabat and Abu Dhabi have continued to deepen since the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the establishment of a Joint Committee of Consular Affairs in March 2015.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries can be traced back to the 1970s when King Hassan II sent an official invitation to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
A decade later, the two countries created the UAE-Moroccan Joint Committee on May 16, 1985, in Rabat. Since then, the Joint Higher Committee has met numerously with the seventh on May 21-22, 2018, in Abu Dhabi — under the leadership of the two countries’ foreign ministers.
