The South African government and Ghanaian counterpart have reached an agreement “on a visa waiver regime for holders of ordinary passport” to enter Africa South Africa and stay up to 90 days.
Ghanaians with ordinary passports will now be able to visit South Africa for up to 90 days each year without the need for a visa.
The agreement takes effect from November 1, 2023,
This agreement follows South Africa’s 2018 announcement to establish visa waiver agreements with various countries, including Ghana.
The South African High Commission in Ghana in statement on Thursday confirmed the implementation of the visa exemption for Ghanaians.
This move is expected to boost tourism, business, and cultural exchanges between the two nations, fostering stronger ties and cooperation. It marks a significant step in enhancing diplomatic relations between South Africa and Ghana, promising more accessible and flexible travel opportunities.
“The High Commission of the Republic of South Africa has the honor to inform the Republic of Ghana that both Governments agreed to implement the waiver for visa exemption for ordinary passport holders for a cumulative period of ninety (90) days per annum, with effect from 01 November 2023.”
It added that “should the ninety (90) days be exhausted within the twelve (12) months period, ordinary passport holders are required to apply for a visa to enter the Republic of South Africa.”
