The Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) has announced that the Scrabble competition at the ongoing African Games in Ghana will be streamed live on its official Twitch channel for viewers globally.
The Scrabble event, which is a demonstration sport at these Games, will take place at the Alisa Hotel in Accra from March 15-17, as it marks its debut at the Games.
A total of 13 countries will be participating, with Nigeria leading the charge as the top ranked Scrabble nation on the African continent.
“The African Games Scrabble Event will be streamed live on Twitch through the Pan African Scrabble Association official channel,” the PANASA said, sharing the link to the official Twitch channel on the association n’s X (Twitter) page for viewers globally.
For the English language Scrabble event, Nigeria will be joined by the host nation Ghana, as well as Liberia, Kenya, Uganda, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, South Africa and Zambia as they battle for honors.
Meanwhile, the French language Scrabble competition will feature Benin Republic, Gabon, Togo and the Democratic Republic of Congo vying for the bragging rights.
By live streaming the matches on its Twitch platform, the Pan African Scrabble Association aims to grow viewership and interest in the competitive word game across the continent and diaspora.
Fans will get a front row seat to witness the intense mental battles as elite players from the participating nations showcase their vocabulary skills, strategic thinking and ability to manage the game board pressure.
The decision to stream such a niche sport live highlights the effort to raise Scrabble’s profile in Africa and expose it to new audiences who may be inspired to take up the game.
With national pride on the line, the Scrabble competitors will be representing their countries with hopes of emerging victorious from this unique exhibition event at the 13th African Games in Accra.
