Star player Mohammed Kudus has been handed a starting rule as Coach Chris Hughton shakes up lineup as part of a revised Ghana team to play Egypt in the second Group B game of the AFCON 2023 at the Felix Houphouet Boigny stadium.
Desperate for their first win after a shocking 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde Islands, head coach Chris Hughton has made three changes to his lineup for the vital 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group B clash.
The most notable inclusion is creative midfielder Kudus, who was surprisingly left on the substitutes bench for the full 90 minutes against Cape Verde. His playmaking abilities could provide a much-needed spark going forward.
Also entering the lineup is striker Inaki Williams, who will be making his second straight start for Ghana after switching his international allegiance from Spain last year. His speed and work rate up front could capitalize against a usually stiff Egyptian defense.
The final change sees Salis Abdul Samad take up a spot in midfield. Samad impressed as a second half sub last match, and Ghana will hope his tenacious pressuring can limit Egypt’s passing.
The matchup is essentially a must-win for Ghana if they hope to progress out of Group B. Their chances took a hit after dropping all three points against Cape Verde Islands.
While a draw would not mathematically eliminate the Black Stars, it would likely leave advancement out of their hands heading into the final match. Ghana will be hungry to make a statement and get their AFCON back on track.
