The African Paralympic Committee (AfPC) has applauded Nigeria’s commitment to advancing disability sports following the announcement of a 13-member Local Organizing Committee (LOC) that will oversee the inaugural West African Para Games.
Scheduled to take place in Abeokuta, Ogun State, from November 26 to December 4, 2025, the event marks a historic milestone for Paralympic sports in the West African region, covering both Zones A and B.
The Games align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE), an ambitious framework positioning Nigeria as a leading destination for major international sporting competitions. This strategic vision underscores the government’s commitment to elevating the country’s sports infrastructure and global standing.

The AfPC praised the leadership of National Sports Commission Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, and LOC Chairman Achakpo Victor, for their dedication to delivering a world-class event. Their pledge to raise organizational standards demonstrates Nigeria’s preparedness to host what promises to be a highly competitive and historic competition.
Special recognition was given to Sunday Odebode, President of the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria and Executive Board Member of the AfPC, whose persistent advocacy and continental engagement proved crucial in securing Nigeria’s hosting rights.

The AfPC expressed confidence that Abeokuta will provide an inspiring platform for para-athletes, coaches, officials, and fans throughout West Africa. Beyond competition, the Games are expected to strengthen regional cooperation, accelerate talent development, and create expanded opportunities for athletes with disabilities across the subregion.
The continental body has pledged its full cooperation and support to the LOC as preparations intensify for the December event.
“Together, we continue to build a stronger, united, and inclusive Paralympic Movement in Africa,” the AfPC stated in its official release.
