Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has completed a move to Al Qadsiah, a newly promoted side in the Saudi Pro League, signing a two-year contract,
It marks the end to his 15-year career in European football, which saw him play for several high-profile clubs.
The 35-year-old forward joins Al Qadsiah following a single season at Marseille, where he impressed with 30 goals in 51 appearances, following a challenging period at Chelsea, where he struggled to find form, scoring only three times in 21 matches.
Announcing the transfer, Al Qadsiah made a bold statement, declaring “Aubameyang is making history in Khobar,” underscoring the significance of the signing for the club based in the eastern city of Khobar, Saudi Arabia.
Aubameyang’s illustrious European career spanned 10 clubs, including football giants such as AC Milan, Monaco, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea, and Marseille. His time at Arsenal was particularly noteworthy, where he won the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2018-19 season and scored two crucial goals in the Gunners’ 2020 FA Cup final victory over Chelsea.
The Gabonese international now follows in the footsteps of former Real Madrid defender Nacho, who also joined Al Qadsiah this summer. The club earned promotion to the Saudi Pro League after topping the Saudi First Division League last season.
His move to Saudi Arabia adds him to a growing list of high-profile players in the country’s top flight, including Brazilian superstar Neymar and Ballon d’Or winners Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo.
This transfer further indicates the Saudi Pro League’s increasing ability to attract top international talent.
His experience and goal-scoring prowess could prove invaluable as the club aims to establish itself in the top tier of Saudi football.
