Ghana football legend Dogo Moro, who was the last living member of the historic 1963 Afcon winning team of the Black Stars has died, in Kumasi.
Dogo Moro, who also won the 1970 Champions League with Asante Kotoko, died in the early hours of Tuesday, May 30, 2022, reports say.
He was part of the history makers who won both the 1963 and 1965 Black Stars African Cup of Nations.
Died in his late 80s, Moro was the last surviving member of the triumphant 1963 AFCON-winning team.
Regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest defenders of all time, Moro featured for both Asante Kotoko and the senior national team Black Stars in an illustrious career that spanned more than a decade.
He was also regarded as “the father of all Zongo players in Ghana” due to his enormous contribution and influence in the Zongo communities, resulting in a football field, close to the Asawase post office, named after him as “Dogo Moro Park”.
Alhaji Moro played for the Black Stars and Asante Kotoko as a defender, which saw him win back-to-back AFCON trophies with the senior national team in 1963 and 1965.
His remarkable feat saw him lead club side Asante Kotoko to win the African Cup (now referred to as the CAF Champions League) in 1970, as part of a football journey that spanned a decade.
Before his death this morning, Dogo Moro was the only surviving member of the team that won us our first AFCON in 1963.
