The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Botswana and Egypt has been pushed back by three hours due to travel complications affecting the Botswana team.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) agreed to delay Tuesday’s match at Francistown Stadium from 13:00 GMT to 16:00 GMT following a request from the Botswana Football Association (BFA).
Botswana’s national side, known as the Zebras, encountered logistical problems that prevented them from leaving Nouakchott as planned on Sunday after their 1-0 defeat to Mauritania in their Group C opener.
The BFA announced that the team would only arrive home at 07:00 GMT on match day, leaving little time for preparation. This prompted their appeal to CAF for a later kick-off.
Egypt, who began their campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over Cape Verde, currently top the group alongside Mauritania on three points.
The postponement adds an unexpected twist to the qualifying campaign, with the top two teams from each of the 12 groups set to secure their places at next year’s tournament in Morocco.
