Pyramids FC of Egypt began their African Champions League campaign with a resounding 6-0 victory over JKU of Zanzibar in the first leg of the preliminary round.
The match, played at the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo on Sunday, saw the hosts dominate from the outset.
Congolese striker Fiston Mayele opened the scoring after just nine minutes, heading home from close range. Moroccan midfielder Walid El-Karti doubled the lead six minutes later, also with a header.
Mohanad Lashin added a third in the 26th minute with a superb long-range effort, before Ibrahim Adel made it 4-0 shortly after.
Lashin notched his second of the match in the 55th minute, with Mahmoud Abdel-Hafiz completing the rout two minutes from time.
The tie was originally scheduled to be played in Zanzibar, but JKU agreed to contest both legs in Cairo.
Pyramids FC will host the return leg on Saturday, with one foot already firmly in the next round.
