Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, the Minister of Education, has refuted claims that the Ministry of Education
will abolish the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE), which are taken by junior high school students in their final year to gain admission to Senior high schools.
The Member of Parliament for the Bosomtwe Constituency, stressed that previous rumors that the Education Ministry would stop allowing junior high school students to enroll through BECE into the various senior high schools across the nation were false.
As part of reforms in the education sector, some prominent media portals recently reported that the Ministry of Education would cancel exams administered by the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
The public and significant stakeholders in the education sector were split by publications on the potential cancellation of the BECE, with many urging the government to change its mind.

At a press conference held at Fumesua on Sunday, March 12, 2023, Dr. Adutwum responded to inquiries about the subject and reassured the public that no such changes were being considered that would cancel BECE.
On Saturday, March 11, 2023, the minister made this statement while speaking with representatives of the Conference of Aided Senior High Schools (CHASS) and the Principals of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institutions in Kumasi.
The purpose of the gathering, which is a yearly ritual, was to update them on the state of education in the nation, discuss recent developments in the field, and respond to their questions about problems that impact them.
On Saturday, all of the SHS administrators attended the meeting, which was conducted in two sessions. On Sunday, the principals of TVET institutions from all over Ghana also attended.
