Ghana and the Chinese city of Dalian have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in education, culture, and trade during a high-level meeting between H.E. Kojo Bonsu, Ghana’s Ambassador to China, and a delegation from the Dalian Municipal Government
The delegation, which included officials from the Dalian Education Bureau, Dalian Sanwan Group Co. Ltd, and the Dalian Foreign Affairs Office, met with Ambassador Bonsu at the Ghana Embassy in Beijing to discuss practical ways of deepening relations and expanding partnerships.
Key areas of focus included education, sports, film production, industrial collaboration, and the establishment of sister-city relations.
As part of the discussions, the Dalian Education Bureau announced the offer of two scholarships to Ghanaian students to pursue programmes at any of four universities in Dalian, with study options spanning 20 different disciplines.
The meeting also resulted in a strengthened working relationship between the Ghana Embassy and Dalian authorities to facilitate exchanges in education, sports, and business. Plans were made to organize exchange visits involving students, sporting teams, and business delegations to foster mutual understanding and cooperation.
In a significant cultural initiative, both sides agreed to jointly produce a film documentary in the first quarter of 2026. The production will highlight the opportunities and shared values between Ghana and Dalian, serving as a platform to promote people-to-people relations and enhance mutual development.
Ambassador Bonsu commended the Dalian delegation for their commitment and expressed Ghana’s readiness to build on the partnership. He also announced plans to initiate a Sister-City relationship between Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region of Ghana, and Dalian, to deepen cooperation at the municipal level.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their dedication to fostering long-term, mutually beneficial relations that align with the broader Ghana-China partnership agenda.
