Ghana’s Football Association (GFA) has taken swift action by dissolving the national team’s management committee with immediate effect while issuing a formal apology following the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
In a strongly-worded statement, the GFA expressed “sincerest apologies to the good people of Ghana” after the four-time African champions missed out on the continental showpiece for the first time in 20 years.
“In doing so, we sincerely thank the members of the Committee for their service to Ghana Football over the years,” the statement said.
“We understand the disappointment and frustration this failure has caused, and we share in the pain and sadness of our beloved fans. We acknowledge that the team’s performance did not meet the high expectations of the nation,” the GFA added.
A crucial meeting has been scheduled with head coach Otto Addo on 27 November to discuss his technical report and the team’s performance since his appointment earlier this year.
In response to the crisis, the GFA has announced a comprehensive football retreat to be held at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence on 28 November. The gathering will include key stakeholders such as former players, coaches, media representatives, and government officials.
The retreat aims to develop a new roadmap for improving the performance of both the Black Stars and other national teams, with input from various sectors including sports medicine, economics, and marketing professionals.
