Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign got off to a disappointing start as they conceded a stoppage-time goal to lose 1-0 to Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Black Stars dominated for long periods but were undone in the third minute of added time when substitute Felício Mendes João Milson scored from close range.
Jordan Ayew led the attack for Ghana, with Antoine Semenyo and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku on the wings. Mohammed Kudus, Thomas Partey and Elisha Owusu formed the midfield trio.
The hosts created several chances, with Semenyo firing just wide early on. Angola goalkeeper Neblu was called into action to save from Kudus and Semenyo, while Jordan Ayew saw a shot blocked after rounding the keeper.
Ghana continued to press for a winner, but it was Angola who struck late on. Abdul Mumin failed to clear his lines following a miscued kick, allowing Milson to smash home the decisive goal.
The result marks Ghana’s first home defeat in 24 years at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Black Stars coach Otto Addo brought on Joseph Paintsil, Majeed Ashimeru and Inaki Williams in search of an equaliser, but to no avail.
Ghana will now look to get their campaign back on track when they face Niger on Monday, while Angola host Sudan in the other Group F fixture.
