Former Deputy Western Regional Minister, Emelia Arthur, filed her nomination to contest in the Parliamentary Primaries for Shama Constituency on Monday, March 20th , marking a renewed passion to serve her people in the house of legislation
The NDC will be holding its presidential and primary elections on May 13, 2023, and the former presidential staffer walked the talk on Wednesday after declaring her intention a month earlier.
Speaking after submitting her forms at the constituency office, Ms. Arthur, who also served as the District Chief Executive of Shama, said she believes she has what it takes to snatch the parliamentary seat from the NPP.
“I have served Shama Constituency as a citizen, as a community development professional, and as a district chief executive, and I know the delegates know I have what it takes to lead the party in our aim to snatch the seat from this poorly performing NPP,” he said.
“I have the vision, experience, and community, national, and international networks to deliver what is needed. I have a team of activists, young men and women, already on the ground.”
Ms. Arthur has had a long-standing aim of being in Parliament, and the May 13 contest comes as another test as she faces stiff opposition from Hon. Grabriel Kojo Essilfie, who served the NDC between 2008 and 2016.
She comes into the Shama race with vast experience and many years of service to the party.
She served as a presidential staffer under his excellency, John Mahama, after serving as deputy regional minister under the Mills administration.
She is a member of the Party’s Western Region caucus and a member of the Party’s National Communication Bureau.
She is also a member of “the Lab,” the party’s think tank, which is preparing the plans and programs that will give this NDC the direction it needs to win power from the NPP in the 2024 elections.
The Shama constituency is currently occupied by the ruling New Patriotic Party after it wrestled it from the NDC in the 2016 election.
