The government is committed to creating initiatives to transform the lives of the youth in Ghana, as evident in the number of youth-related initiatives that have been rolled out over the years.Initiatives such as the National Entrepreneurship Innovative Programme (NEIP) empower young entrepreneurs to build their businesses and employ their colleagues who may not be entrepreneurial savvy thereby mitigating the employment burden on the government. The Minister for Youth and Sport, Mustapha Ussif, said this when a delegation from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) led by the African Youth Envoy, Chido Mpemba, paid a courtesy call to him.Mr Ussif added that the government had introduced greenhouse facilities at Dawhenya to train the youth on a balanced plant environment, pest management technology, labour management policies and the ability to successfully manage greenhouse production. The Minister said those initiatives have largely helped the youth in different fields, adding that the government was focused on sustaining the initiatives.“The record number of athletes who have qualified to the Commonwealth Games slated for Birmingham later this month was as a result of the investment in basic sports infrastructure in the various communities which has tremendously improved the performance of the athletes,” he said.On her part, the African Youth Envoy, Chido Mpemba said she had identified some models that would help to improve the lives of the youth. Some of the models include youth engagement, community engagement, engagement with policy and decision-makers to consider youth policies and bring the youth agenda forward as well as capacity building.
