“Hello Grace, it’s me, Naa. We were in the same class in JHS. Do you remember me?” I introduced myself. I felt her smile as she responded, “Oh yeah Naa, of course, I remember you. It’s been a long time. What’s going on?” I tried to steady my breath as I said, “I wish we were talking under better circumstances but unfortunately it is about Odartey, the guy you are currently dating.” “Naa, how do you know I am dating Odartey?” She cut in. I paused for a while, “I know you are dating him because I have been in a relationship with him for three years now. Sis, he is playing both of us and I thought you should know.” Before I could say anything else she shouted angrily, “Don’t pretend you are telling me this because you care about my feelings. You just want to eliminate the competition so that you can have him to yourself. It’s not going to happen. If you were enough for him, he wouldn’t have come for me. Tie your cloth and let me tie mine, whoever wins gets to keep him.”

Nothing, I mean absolutely nothing, could have prepared me for her response. I only wanted to tell her that the man she was seriously dating was a backstabbing cheat, but it backfired. She misunderstood me and insulted me dirty, instead of seeing Odartey for who he was. I suppose it’s true what they say, “You can’t advise a girl in love.” How did all this even start? Until recently, I believed Odartey and I were star-crossed lovers. I met him right when I completed SHS, and we have been inseparable since. Loving him felt like what I was born to do. We were so entangled in each other that our families are even involved in our relationship.
I suppose all the drama dates back to last year when I travelled from our region to Eastern Region for school. It was in my absence that he got involved with my JHS classmate, Grace. He didn’t know she was someone I knew. It was just a mere coincidence. And I didn’t suspect he was cheating on me when I came back home. It was his aunt who spilt the beans when Odartey and I went to visit her together. If not for her, he would have kept me in the dark and continued playing the two of us. That’s why I thought it wise to reach out to Grace and let her know.
After my phone call with Grace, Odartey came to ask me, “Why did you call Grace to harass her? I already apologized to you for my mistake of dating her. And you forgave me and took me back, so why did you go and attack an innocent victim of my deception?” I was shocked at his accusation because I was the one who got harassed, not her. I tried to explain this to my boyfriend but he wouldn’t listen. According to him, I was more likely to cause trouble than she was. I was hurt but I didn’t talk. The next morning when I woke up, this girl had texted me a lot of insults. I read them but I didn’t respond. The day after that she did it again. This time the insults were more degrading than the first one, but I still didn’t mind her. So, she did it again the next day. At this point I decided to retaliate, then she took screenshots of my insults and send them to Odartey and played the victim. He also jumped on the case and started defending her. When I explained that he was mistaken, he insisted that I started it by contacting her in the first place.

She continued insulting me every day until we bumped into each other in July. I wanted us to sort out our issues as adults because I understood that it wasn’t her fault that we both got played. However, she started insulting me again. So, I slapped her to shut her up. Then I told her, “This should be the last time you insult me. Don’t come into my DM with insults either. If you want to insult someone insult the man who deceived you, not me.” I thought everything was settled there and then, but I was wrong. The next day she texted me more insults. I decided then that she is not worth my attention. I even made Odartey apologize to her so that she would leave me alone but this girl wouldn’t budge..
She would call him at odd hours begging him to choose her over me. We both blocked her number but she continually called us with different numbers. At a point, we stopped engaging her completely so she got angry and started cursing Odartey. She said we will never make it in life, and that my boyfriend will eat on my lap forever. Odartey is a driver so this girl said there is no way he will get a car to work with. And that is where my problem is. Odartey has been in the house for eight good months without a car to drive until just recently when he finally received a car that was bought in his name. Now that he is ready to work, Grace has cursed us. This makes me believe something will go terribly wrong when he starts working with the car. And as much as I love him, I am not sure I want to be in his life when the curses start taking effect.
I don’t want some of the curses to extend to me because of my association with him. Life is hard as it is already. Please what do you think I should do?
