Fresh off her golden triumph in the women’s 400m hurdles at the 13th African Games in Accra, South Africa’s Rogail Joseph soaked in some local nightlife at the University of Ghana’s vibrant fan park.
The 23-year-old’s blistering 55.39 second run made her Team South Africa’s 100th medal winner at the continental games. And later in the evening trade the track for the lively atmosphere among vendors and revelers at the UG fan zone.
“It’s nice music, like South Africa’s music,” she said, savoring the celebratory vibe.
“I really like the environment and everyone. “It’s just nice to see how everyone comes together and celebrates.”
Despite struggling with Ghana’s hot weather conditions, Joseph put up a stellar performance earlier in the day to claim the 400m hurdles gold for South Africa. Her victory provided a shining moment for the nation’s athletic contingent.
“Ghana is really nice, but very hot. I can’t cope, it’s really hot,” admitted the 23-year-old while speaking to africanews360.com’s Muhammed Malik.
But the hip Ghanaian nightlife offered a stark contrast to the heat that had drained Joseph during the day’s competition.
For some few hours, the young hurdler proved just as adept at embracing the local culture off the field in Accra.
Competitions came to an end at the University of Ghana Stadium, followed by a nighttime energy pulsating through the UG fan park,
“The night scene here has been amazing,” she added.
As the 100th medalist for Team South Africa, Joseph’s golden race provided a highlight at the African Games, while her presence in the Ghanaian nightlife showcased an a young ambassador embracing the full continental experience.
