Imoro Sheriff, a Ghanaian soldier, who was allegedly stabbed to death at Taifa, a suburb of Ashaiman, was on Thursday, buried at the Military Cemetery in Accra.
It was an emotional scene as officers and men of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) turned out in their numbers to pay their last respect to the 21-year-old trooper, who was brought to the 37 Military Hospital Mosque for the funeral ceremony.
The National Chief Imam, Sheik Osman Nuhu Sharubutu led the Muslim congregation in the performance of the intecessory prayer for the young Muslim soldier.
The late Sheriff, a trumpeter with the GAF Band, stationed at Sunyani, in the Bono Region, was allegedly killed by a mob at Ashaiman Taifa last Saturday.
In the last three weeks, he has been in Accra for a military course and had been visiting his parents in Ashaiman every Friday.
He was found in a pool of blood near the Amania Hotel in Ashaiman and suspected to have been stabbed to death.
The Military High Command on Tuesday sanctioned an intelligence-led operation to fish out the perpetrators of the crime.
In the course of the operation, some civilians reported of brutalities meted out to them after soldiers stormed Ashaiman in armoured vehicles
One hundred and eighty forty persons were arrested and handed over to the Ghana Police Service through the Military Police.
The GAF said a dawn swoop at Ashaiman, in the Greater Accra Region, on Tuesday, was not to avenge the killing of one of its personnel.
Rather, the operation was to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime, which resulted in the death of Sheriff
According to a statement issued and signed by Brigadier General Aggrey-Quashie, Director of Public Relations of the GAF, in Accra, during the swoop the GAF arrested 184 suspects between the ages of 21 and 47.
The statement said the suspects have since been handed over to the Military Police, and they (suspects) would be sent to the Ghana Police Service for further screening and action.
It would be recalled that Tulaku, a suburb of Ashaiman, was deserted when some military personnel stormed the area and arrested some people after the murder of the soldier.
The incident of the alleged mob killing of the soldier received mixed reactions over the weekend as to what might have triggered the barbaric attack on the soldier.
