Police in Kenya’s Nakuru County have arrested a suspected leader of a gang linked to crime.
The suspect was nabbed in a police operation in Msalaba in Nakuru East, possessing dangerous weapons.
Police said he is believed to be a leader of a splinter of Confirm gang called Wa TZ.
The gang has been linked to many atrocities and killings in Nakuru, police said.
At the time of his arrest, he had two knives believed to be used in committing crimes.
Nakuru police boss Peter Mwanzo said police are investigating him over various crimes of robbery and murder.
“The gang has been on the police radar for many days. On Wednesday, police officers were notified that the gang had a meeting at Msalaba area, where they managed to arrest the suspect,” he said.
“The police have recovered a car and crude weapons including swords and pangas belonging to the gang. We are also pursuing five other suspected members of the gang who are on the run.”
In August, police arrested another ring leader of the Confirm gang, and recovered drugs in his house.
He was arrested during an operation in the city.
Nakuru has been experiencing an increase in organized crime. The gang has been blamed for several murders and muggings in the town.
It has also been blamed for swindling members of the public through phones.
A crackdown against the gang started after at least six women were killed in Mawanga Estate.
At least 140 members of the gang have been arrested since the crackdown, and five of them are facing murder charges, as they are suspected to have been behind the murders of the women in Mawanga.
