In the women’s category, Ethiopian athlete Yalemzerf Yehualaw ran away with the title in sensational fashion.
The 23-year-old runner outpaced defending champion Joyciline Jepkosgei to cross the finishing line in 2:17.26.
The 2020 World Half Marathon bronze medalist ended Kenyan women’s dominance in the race.
Prior to Sunday’s event, Kenyan women had won 9 out of the 10 recent editions with the reigning world record holder Brigid Kosgei winning back to back titles.
Jepkosgei clocked 2:18.06 to settle for second ahead of compatriot Judith Korir who registered a fourth place finish.
Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga was among a number of prominent individuals who congratulated Kipruto and Jepkosgei for their breathtaking performances.
