Accra, Ghana (March 19, 2024) – In a spectacular defense of her throne, Rose Amoanima Yeboah etched her name deeper into the annals of African athletics history by retaining her high jump gold medal at the 2023 African Games.
The Ghanaian sensation soared to victory on home soil, clearing 1.87m to emerge as the undisputed queen of the continent’s high jump in a pulsating final on Tuesday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
Though narrowly missing an attempt at 1.90m which would have smashed her own national record of 1.94m, Yeboah’s 1.87m jump proved unmatched on the day.
When her golden achievement was secure, the jubilant 22-year-old jogged a victory lap while proudly holding aloft the Ghanaian flag, drinking in the thunderous roars from the ecstatic home crowd.
With this successful defense of the African Games high jump title she claimed four years ago, Yeboah cemented her status as the reigning queen of the event on the African continent.
Her back-to-back gold medals at the multi-sport showcase have enshrined her among the pantheon of Ghanaian athletics heroes.
Her remarkable achievement contributes to Ghana’s overall medal tally to 47 comprising 10 gold, 22 silver, and 15 bronze.
