A court in Madagascar has ruled that the presidential election postponed by a week.
Voting will now take place on 16 November.
The High Constitutional Court said in a statement on its website that it had ordered the first round of the election to be held on November 16 instead of November 9.
The second round election maintained on December 20.
The spokesperson for the Independent National Electoral Commission, Soava Andriamarotafika says the postponement gave will give them more time to prepare for the polls.
“This one-week postponement lightens our workload and the pace a little for the first round. We should be able to breathe a little. But it is true that for the second round, we have to pick up the pace a little,” Andriamarotafika is cited by Reuters News Agency.
Twelve candidates are running for the highest political sit inthe Indian Ocean island.
