In solidarity with victims of the recent earthquake in Al-Haouz, the Social Works Association for Print Journalists announced donating MAD 200,000 ($19,600) to the relief effort.
The announcement is part of a broader national campaign to provide aid and assistance to those affected by the devastating earthquake that shook central Morocco.
The Association expressed its commitment to helping those in need and established a fund dedicated to assisting the earthquake victims. The funds represent the Association’s initial support for this noble cause.
Commenting on the news, the Association’s spokesperson said: “We stand united with the people of Al-Haouz during this challenging time.”
“Our contribution is a testament to our commitment to social responsibility and our dedication to aiding those affected by natural disasters. We hope that this donation will provide some relief to the victims and assist in their recovery,” he added.
The death toll from the earthquake is nearing 3,000 as rescue operations continue to unfold.
As rescue operations enter their fourth day, locals in remote areas still report not receiving any aid.
The earthquake left hundreds without shelter. The government pledged to implement a reconstruction program to rehabilitate the earthquake-struck communities.
Estimates suggest that the economic toll of the earthquake could reach 8% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
