Morocco’s national cycling team has broken barriers in the cycling world to secure the second spot in Africa’s latest cycling rankings.
Once again showcasing its prowess at the latest “Africa Tour,” the Moroccan national cycling team maintained its 26th position in the world rankings while overtaking South Africa, which has long been one of the dominant forces on the African cycling scene, to secure the second spot on the continent.
The International Cycling Union’s latest rankings, published on Tuesday, pointed to the Moroccan team’s impressive performances during the “Africa tour” standings, amassing an impressive 1724 points, Moroccan state media reported. This remarkable achievement has solidified their position as a formidable force in the region, the report added.
Topping the African League “Africa tour” standings is the Eritrean cycling team, with an impressive 3499.23 points. The Eritrean team not only retains its top spot in Africa but has also climbed to the 19th position in the global rankings.
However, Morocco is not far behind and remains in a strong second place, leaving a significant gap between them and the third-placed team, South Africa, who now sits at the 27th place globally with 1480.57 points.
In the highly contested continental team standings, it is the Moroccan team “Sidi Ali Unlock” that has been turning heads. Comprising riders from various nationalities, the team has earned a notable 194 points showcasing their unity and determination.
Following closely are the Rwandan team “My Stars” with 90 points and the Angolan team “Bay Sikasal Petro Luanda” with 50 points, making for a fierce competition in the Africa tour.
The success of Morocco’s national cycling team extends to the individual standings as well, with two of its riders making significant strides.
The talented Achraf Daghmi secured the fourth position in the Africa Tour individual standings with 535 points. Meanwhile, Adel El Arabaoui, another rising star, followed closely in seventh position with 390 points.
Morocco’s state media quoted the International Cycling Union as saying that the Moroccan team’s latest performances serve as a testament to the country’s commitment to nurturing and developing talent in the sport of cycling.
