FIFA has ruled in favor of former Al Ahli Jeddah coach Pitso Mosimane in his case against the Saudi club, ordering them to pay the South African $1.15 million in compensation.
According to reports by South African newspaper iDiski Times, FIFA came down on the side of Mosimane after he lodged complaints against Al Ahli over unpaid wages and improper contract termination.
Mosimane’s contract with Al Ahli contained an automatic one-year extension clause if he led the team back to the Saudi top flight. However, Al Ahli terminated his contract ahead of the new season despite this clause.
In his complaint to FIFA, Mosimane accused Al Ahli of failing to pay him six months of owed salaries even after being granted 15 days to remedy the default.
FIFA sided with the South African coach and instructed Al Ahli to pay Mosimane $355,500 in unpaid wages with interest, $786,000 for improper termination with interest, and an additional $11,612 as deserved compensation – totaling $1.15 million.
The club now has 21 days to appeal the FIFA decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Mosimane recently took up a new coaching position at Saudi club Abha, which currently sits 17th in the league table. The FIFA ruling will come as welcome news for the manager following his contentious exit from Al Ahli.
