Portugal’s Jose Mourinho has said that one of his first decisions if he becomes PSG’s new coach will be to sign the in-demand Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
According to Foot Mercato, Mourinho is in the top two on the list of coaches PSG President Nasser Al Khelaifi would like to hire to manage his club next season.
“Mourinho discussed with him [the PSG president] his desire to take control of the reigning French champions club and his ideas for putting the club back in its place,” the news outlet said, stressing that the Portuguese coach already has a few players he would like to sign if given the PSG job.
“To achieve this, Mourinho already has a few player profiles in mind, starting with Sofiane Amrabat according to our information,” Foot Mercato reported, adding that the Portuguese coach is already in talks with the Moroccan player about what he thinks of becoming a “ key player” in the PSG midfield
Amrabat has attracted the interest of many elite clubs since Morocco’s 2022 fairytale performance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
In addition to PSG, FC Barcelona is reportedly interested in securing a deal with Fiorentina for Amrabat in the next summer transfer.
According to the news website Sport, Barcelona’s “idea is to sign Gundogan, although there is still no financial agreement with the player, and a more physical player, who would be Sofyan Amrabat.”
Football Italia also recently reported that Barcelona wants Amrabat at “all costs.”
Reports of a Mourinhi-led PSG’s interest in Amrabat might add more excitement or drama to what the coming transfer window may look like for the Moroccan star, with earlier reports having indicated that Amrabat’s dream was to join FC Barcelona.
After Firorentina rejected Barcelona’s offer in January to sign Amrabat, Sofyan’s brother, Nordin Amrabat, said in an interview with ESPN that the midfielder “really wanted to go to Barca and had a lot of hope that the whole operation could happen.”
Most recently, many converging reports have indicated that FC Barcelona is still interested in securing the services of the highly rated Moroccan midfielder.
