The ousted Niger’s President Mohamed Bazoum has been detained without electricity, good food, and medicine, this is according to CNN.
Bazoum is reported to be being fed on dry rice and pasta by the military junta.
In text messages seen by CNN, Bazoum has been in constant communication with his friend revealing that he has been deprived of all human contact since last week.
CNN further reports that the perishable food that Bazoum was supplied with has since gone bad.
Last week, the embattled President had urged the US and the ‘entire international community’ to help ‘restore constitutional order’ after the July 26 coup.
Unrest has continued since he was overthrown.
The coup leaders announced they were withdrawing the country’s ambassadors from France, the US, Nigeria, and Togo.
The Junta leader Gen Abdourahmane Tchiani on Monday appointed the former finance minister as the new prime minister.
Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine replaces Mahamadou Ouhoumoudou, who was in Europe during the coup.
His appointment was announced in a statement read on the state-owned television channel Télé Sahel on Monday night by a junta spokesperson.
Zeine has worked for the African Development Bank in Chad, Ivory Coast and Gabon in recent years, according to the privately-owned ActuNiger news website.
