Tunisia, one of Africa’s five representatives at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, played out a pulsating 0-0 draw with tournament dark horses Denmark on Tuesday to open action in Group D.
While both sides had strong scoring chances, Denmark controlled possession 57 per cent of the match and led with five shots on goal to one.
However, Tunisia led the total shots column 13-11 and had some of the more dangerous chances in the match.
Both Tunisia and Denmark thought they had scored the go-ahead goal but both negated due to an offside.
Tunisia forward Issam Jebali got by everyone 24th minute and scored but was ruled offside while Denmark forward Andreas Skov Olsen thought he buried one in the 56th minute but once again it was ruled offside.
The best chances for a legal goal came when Denmark’s Christian Eriksen was stopped by Tunisia goaltender Aymen Dahmen in the 69th minute, then forward Andrea Cornelius’ header off a corner kick went just wide of an open Tunisian net in the 70th minute.
In stoppage time, Denmark midfielder Jesper Lindstrom almost picked the top corner of the net but was stopped with a beautiful save by Dahmen.
