The Zambian football community is in mourning after the tragic passing of former national team midfielder Rainford Kalaba, who died at the age of 37 following a horrific road accident.
According to reports, Kalaba’s car was involved in a head-on collision with a truck along the Lusaka-Kafue road on Saturday morning. A yet-to-be-identified female passenger in Kalaba’s vehicle tragically died on the scene.
Kalaba, who was born in Kitwe, was renowned who was renowned for his silky skills and playmaking abilities, was immediately evacuated to the University Teaching Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, but he succumbed to severe fractures and concussion sustained during the grisly accident.

The former Chipolopolo midfield maestro, affectionately nicknamed “Master”, was a standout player for the Zambian national team, helping them win the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
He also enjoyed a successful club career, most notably with TP Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he won multiple league titles and the prestigious CAF Champions League.
