Kenyan athletes have returned home to a hero’s welcome after their successful performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Thousands of supporters turned out to greet Team Kenya, who finished 17th in the medal table with 11 medals: four gold, twp silver and five bronze, ending as Africa’s top medal country at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Team arrived in Nairobi early in the morning to a traditional warrior’s welcome, receiving gourds of milk before driving into town on an open-top bus.
A colourful ceremony was held in Eldoret, known as the City of Champions, where President William Ruto hosted the Olympians for a breakfast meeting.
Along the route, Kenyans cheered and waved national flags to celebrate the team’s achievements as they finished second in athletics.
The scene echoed a similar homecoming in 2001, when Kenyan athletes returned from the World Championships in Canada to cheering crowds.

The medal winners include Beatrice Chebet, who made history by winning two gold medals in her Olympic debut, in the 5,000m and 10,000m events. Faith Kipyegon secured one gold and one silver medal, while Emmanuel Wanyonyi won a gold medal as Ronald Kwemoi earned a silver medal.
Bronze medals were won by Faith Cherotich, Abraham Kibiwott, Mary Moraa, Hellen Obiri, and Benson Kipruto, who won gold in the men’s race at the 2024 Tokyo Marathon.
This outstanding performance cemented Kenya’s position as a powerhouse in athletics and the leading African nation at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
