President of Senegal Bassirou Diomaye Faye has extended warm greetings to Senegal’s Muslim community and the global Islamic Ummah in his first Eid al-Fitr message since taking office just a week ago.
Marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, the President expressed gratitude that this religious observance coincided with the early days of his administration.
“The month of Ramadan is an exceptional period of rapprochement between the Muslim and his Creator,” President Faye stated.
He described Ramadan as a time when Muslims devote themselves to prayers, invocations and submission to God through fasting, abstinence and detachment from earthly temptations. “This blessed month is a moment of spiritual introspection, both individual and collective,” the President remarked.
Calling it a “great moment of asking forgiveness,” President Faye prayed that Allah would accept the devotions of Senegalese Muslims and pardon their inevitable sins during Ramadan.
Beyond the spiritual aspects, the President highlighted how Ramadan promotes solidarity, conviviality and generosity among all Senegalese. “It contributes to the consolidation of our so precious common desire to live together,” he affirmed.
In his Eid wishes, President Faye extended greetings to religious guides, leaders, imams, Quranic teachers and Muslims across Senegal and around the world.
The message comes as Senegalese Muslims join over a billion believers globally in celebrating Eid al-Fitr with prayers, gatherings with family and friends, gift-giving and festive meals.
